Reasoning / Successbut / For generations, biologists had wondered about eggs of the blue goose. No known person had ever seen an egg of a blue goose. Nevertheless, supposed that there were these eggs. Finally, told, Sept 1, 1927, some were laid by a blue goose in captivity. But now suppose was the platypus, and no early settler had ever seen a new-born one. Supposed were like other young mammals. Finally eggs found. No settler would have thought of a mammal laying eggs. [Reincarnation]:

Reincarnation / Six weeks-old baby, who talked mysteriously and then died / Religio-Phil Jour / Feb 5, 1876, p. 1 / YRA ++. [SF-VII; 56. "A Wonder-Child." Religio-Philosophical Journal, 19 (no. 21; February 5, 1876): 369, (c. 1-3). "The baby’s teeth were as fully developed as those of a grown person,   and the child had so much hair on its body that it resembled an ape much more than a human being. I could not help but think that the baby was really older than its  mother said it was, but by inquiring  among the neighbors I ascertained  it was really only a few weeks old. The baby had a large head, and   a small body. Its eyes were peculiarly bright and and intelligent looking." The incident, (as reported), suggested that the infant of a Jewish widow, in New York City, had sat up in its cradle and began talking, while being watched by a 7-year-old girl. The frightened mother called upon a rabbi. He could not discern any of the words, which the mother repeated and said were in German. The rabbi performed a rite to cast out devils, and the child died. No mention is suggested of reincarnation in the article, only exorcism, prophecy, and spiritual mediums. (New York Sunday Mercury, ca. 1876; on microfilm.)

[Reindeer]:

[The following four notes were folded together by Fort. MB-II: 67 to 70.]

Reindeer / BO / In Geographical Journal, 1-26 , Sir Allen Young, in discussion of Nansen's proposed attempt, said that when he was at Upernavik, on w. coast of Greenland, the Governor had the skin of a reindeer branded with a mark like those in Siberia, and no tame reindeer in Greenland. [MB-II: 67.1, 67.2. Nansen, Fridtjof. "How Can the North Polar Region Be Crossed?" Geographical Journal, 1 (January 1893): 1-32, at 26.]

Reindeer / BO / Two Voyages of the Pandora, p. 163 (published 1879) / Young writes that Governor told him that recently had been shot a reindeer with a T mark branded on its forehead. Governor had sent the skin to Copenhagen. / Young not see. Governor not wear. [MB-II: 68.1, 68.2. Young, Allen William. The Two Voyages of the Pandora in 1875 and 1876. London: Edward Stanford, 1879, 163.]

Reindeer / BO / Lamont, Yachting in the Arctic Seas, p. 110, says had heard of the marked reindeer of Spitz and in August, 1869, had shot 2 stags, each having the left ear "back half cropped" . "I showed them to Hans, a half-bred Lapp, accustomed to deal with tame reindeer since infancy, and he had no doubt whatever of these animals having been marked by the hand of man." / p. 357, Lamont tells of having shot 2 more. [MB-II: 69.1, 69.2. Lamont, James. Yachting in the Arctic Seas. London: Chatto and Windus, 1876; 110-111 & 357.]
